High Intensity Focused Ultrasound is a medical procedure that uses ultrasound waves to treat certain diseases such as tumors. This is a minimally invasive procedure. Healthcare providers routinely use ultrasound for a variety of imaging purposes. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images or videos of internal organs or other soft tissues. However, HIFU does not produce images. Instead, the highly focused, high-intensity sound waves interact with targeted tissues in the body to alter or destroy them.
